Guest Lecture by Prof. Elaine Roth: „Civil Sentimentalism in Epidemic Media“

On December 2, Prof. Elaine Roth will give a guest lecture on the topic "Civil Sentimentalism in Epidemic Media, from Contagion (2011) to The Last of Us (2013; 2023) and Station Eleven (2014; 2021)" as part of the colloquium of the research training group "The Sentimental in Literature, Culture, and Politics."

Elaine Roth is Professor of Film Studies and Chair of the English Department at Indiana University South Bend. In the winter term 2024 and spring term 2025 she is a Mercator Fellow at the research training group "The Sentimental in Literature, Culture, and Politics." She is currently engaged in research projects on “Sentimentality in Fictional Pandemic Media,” “Early Screenwriters and Directors,” and a project on Patricia Highsmith. Her research interests include Genre Studies, Popular Culture, and Sentimentality.
